Method

  1. Cook dal with turmeric until soft. Mash.
  2. Heat oil. Add onions, tomatoes, chilies, and vegetables. Sauté until tender.
  3. Add tamarind pulp, chili powder, salt, and Zest Sambhar Masala. Stir. Add water and simmer 12 minutes.
  4. Add dal. Simmer 5–6 minutes for thick texture.
  5. Temper with oil, mustard, red chilies, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  6. Serve hot with rice.

Notes / Tips

  1. Add more Zest Red Chili Powder for fiery heat.
  2. Tamarind quantity can be increased for stronger tang.
  3. Serve with hot steamed rice and pickle.
